2012 SFSC Sharker of the Month
SOUTH FLORIDA SHARK CLUB'S March 2012 'Sharker of the Month' Shannon Bustamante
Time to get the ball rolling once again and get this list up to date. This has been a very busy year where time has been at a premium and scarce for me. I have been absent from these pages long enough not fulfilling my duties to the best of my abilities so my apologies to all SFSC members for not keeping up to date this list.
There were some notable large sharks caught during March of this year including two 8 ft 8 inch bull sharks caught by JD Hammer one,and the other by Joe Clausel both from Miami beaches. Also an 8 ft hammerhead shark that was caught by JD Hammer from a Key Biscayne beach that made the pages of the Miami Herald was notable but the largest shark caugh by a shark club member in March 2012 was the 10 ft 1 inch Hammerhead caught by Shannon Bustamante
here is his story
When your targeting bull sharks or lemons, you can get by with fishing along side almost anyone, even alone. If you arrive at your secret spot and your equipped with avet 50s and 14-0s with old line and 6 ft leaders, you are not in search of a world record hammer!!!!!! Your not at fault for this , you or your gear just wont fit the criteria!!!! Then there's the crew you bring with you!!! You can have 5 grown men with you, but if you don't have some one with experience, knowledge, passion, and cojones you might as well staY home. On this trip I had the number one person next to me in search of king kong!! Willy Fundora!!! He may have a little Cuban temper, but all you have to do is match his passion and hustle and you wont here a peep out of him!! I have a bit of that Rene, seaweed, will, Cuban temper my self, so I dish it right back and it's water under the bridge in 5 minutes!!!! On this trip the World Record Hammer wisely stayed away, but I still caught a healthy 10 ft 1 Hammer that picked up my shortest smallest bait!!!!! Excellent video on the way, pictures don't do it justice!!!! Couldn't have done it with out my beautiful wife who was out there filming hard core while 7 months pregnant!!! also again Willy Fundora!!!! Next time 14 ft or better!!!

Hooked up it's on baby!!

the best action shot of the night--this was a feisty 10 footer

SOUTH FLORIDA SHARK CLUB May 2012 Sharker of the Month
SHARKER OF THE MONTH (MAY) JORGE FUNDORA
My brother Jorge Fundora helps out the shark club by paying club dues to join the shark club year after year regardless of weather he intends to shark fish or not. With other reponsibilities in his life he really has not been fishing for sharks much the last several years but he is always there in one form or another .This year in May he was at the right spot at the right time and fishing with a good group of other anglers on an EPIC night of shark fishing a night when history was made. Different teams all fishing in the 2012 BIG HAMMER CHALLNEGE and all along the same stretch of beach landed 17 tiger sharks.Of those anglers fishing the one club member who caught the largest tiger 9 foot 4 inches was Jorge Fundora accompanied by his son Jorge jr.

SHARKER OF THE MONTH(JULY)JOSH JORGENSEN
here is his report that includes the 8 ft 3 inch Bull shark
Well I only had a week of summer break, so I had to make that week worth it! I fished hard and got some great fish! My friend Greg from Canada flew down and joined me on his first ever saltwater fishing expedition. He caught a total of 5 sharks!
BULL SHARK 8FT 3 INCH

The first night I went fishing with Pete Barrett and my friend Mike. We caught 3 blacktips and lost one big shark The shark charged the beach and became unhooked by doing a head shake. The one blacktip I caught was 6'7", an awesome blacktip!

That night I also caught a tiger shark with the rig lassoed around his tail!!

The next day I met up with Ryan from Team Infinity and Mike again and we caught 3 blacktips and one Sandbar. Ryan caught the sandbar:

The next day I went fishing with Ryan again and we caught nothing. We did have a hammer pick up one of the baits and the reason we knew it was a hammer because the wire was completely bent around his head.
The following day I went out to sea on my 8ft kayak with some live croakers with the intent of hooking a sail or a kingfish. To my surprise I caught a tiger shark.
Here is the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7EvWK0YxV0
The next day Mike and I tried the same thing again on our kayaks with live croakers and we had no luck!
I took a day of rest before my friend Greg flew down from Canada. I knew as soon as he got down here I would not stop fishing. The first night we hooked up with Pete Barrett and managed to catch 6 sharks, including one stud bull shark 8' 3"! Greg caught his first shark along with two others!
The next day Greg and I headed north to try and hook a big shark during the day, and managed to catch a nurse shark and a shark which species I cannot identify? Greg was happy with his first nurse.
And so concludes my one week of freedom!

.
SHARKER OF THE MONTH(AUGUST)JD FAGAN
here is the story
"well luis picked me up from my house just the other day and me and his kids headed up north looking to do battle with some monsters.we got to the spot late afternoon and just took are time setting up, there were to many people on the beach at the time so we just waited a while and watched the kids fish and they caught some small cudas, it was awesome watching them catch them. at 7:00 we took out the first bait but we couldent keep the slack out of the line, so we reeled back in and put a bigger rock on.then out went the next bait on the 14/0 two 14/0's with whole bonitas i was feelin pretty good about it but shortly after we droped baits the nurse or some small sharks found are baits an were just bumping the rods. so a few hours later we reel in and we have no bait, its a good thing luis said lets reel in cause i dident feel like getting up.if it wasent for luis we wouldent have hooked these two sharks, so thank you luis for getting us to reel in. so we took out two more baits and the same thing started to happen they started off bumping luis rod and then mine. so i reeled mine in some trying to get it away from whatever was messing with it, then about 30 minuits later i get a solid run and then it stops but i could still feel the weight off the shark there so i hit the running man hard and i was on, it started pulling nice drag and it faught realy good with some veary nice runs. the fight lasted 15 minuits and there it was in the surf big bull? its a tiger! it was and awesome catch and great team work with luis and his kids.the kids helped out so mutch PROPS to them. then we head back to are spot and reel in the other bait and put out two more baits a chunk of jack on one 14/0 and a 10 pound jack head on the other 14/0. about 30 minuits goes buy or less and the jack head starts getting bumped and then after it messed with it for a minuite it picks it up and starts hauling straight out with it super fast. luis lets it eat and then sets up on it hard numerouse times then it starts pulling heavy drag and then there was some slack he got like two cranks in and then it started dumping the real with no sighns of stoping so after a few minuites or so he started to tighten down just a little more, and the line poped on a fray in the line. so the monster was lost but we will be back for more with are game faces on and ready for any kind of battle they can bring fourth. WERE COMING FOR YOU BIG DOG AND YOUR BUDDIES SO WATCH OUT!"

SOUTH FLORIDA SHARK CLUB September 2012 Sharker of the Month
Juggling full time college courses ,finding time for his girlfriend, and catching massive sharks with the little time left is something Chris Fronzek has been doing very well in 2012.This year the mild mannered, red headed shark catching phenom has proven that he can roll with the best sharkers in the state of Florida .Chris has caught some fat bull sharks this year including this 8 ft 5 inch biggest in September by a club member.Chris has been fishing mostly on west coast beaches since moving from Palm Beach to attend college.Chris is our SHARKER OF THE MONTH For September 2012.Congratulations.
SHARKER OF THE MONTH(SEPTEMBER)CHRIS FRONCZEK
here is his story
School finally gave me a weekend where I could squeeze out a trip. Turned out to be a good one. Hit up our new favorite bait spot and got three massive cownose rays. This has been the recent bait of choice after using southerns all summer, the cownose have been getting slammed. Headed about an hour south and hit the beach. Chopped the rays down to a managable size and set them. I've noticed every bait I've put deep, I'm guessing 500 yards, has gotten hit for the last 4 trips. This pattern was good enough for me, so I stuck the Mustad 20/0 Demon is the biggest ray and I stuck it out far.

The 50W dropped short had a small run, but dropped. A couple minutes later, the deep 80 got bumped, I got up but figured it was a bird or something, then the rod took off. The pickup was a no doubter that is was a good fish with a larger bait.

Let her eat for a good minute or so, because I didn't want the big hook to miss if it was a smaller fish. Well, it stuck and I was on to a hoss. Felt dead weight for the entire fight. Thought maybe it got taken into a crab trap, but it kept pulling. The rod was a Barrett custom that I thought was a little stiffer than I liked, but on a nice fish, it felt awesome.
Got it close and there was massive conch on my mainline, which explained the weird pressure on the line. We got the tail rope on her and and two of us tried to get it up out of the water, but it wouldn't budge. A big pregnant bull.
8'5"

Heavy fish

The 20/0 Demon was perfect in the corner of the mouth, it had wrapped around the jawbone, and I couldn't budge it. I didn't want the shark to die, especially a pregnant one, so after a minute of toying with the hook, I had to cut it

It was great to see the fish swim away, even if it had some jewelry.
Maybe 15 minutes after that, my new orange 80W got obliterated, considering my 8'8" and fresh 8'5" bulls had taken minimal drag with my 80w, I knew this fish had to be a true monster. I set the reel to strike and it only made the fish go faster. It took a fast fast run for about 300-400 yards on locked down 80w, something that I hadn't experienced yet. The fish spit the hooks, which was awful, but felt awesome to feel the power. Will make me come back for more.

SHARKER OF THE MONTH (OCTOBER) MARK RESTO
here is his story and his shark
"Went down to the keys with JD Fagan we though we would have a bait hook up but we got to the spot and out buddy's neighbor stole the carcasses we were going to use
. He hooked us up anyways with some skipjack tuna; one of which was the biggest I've ever seen... over 15lbs. The tide wasn't favorable so we hit a new* spot.
I got caught on bottom but yanked it off, then Fagan got hit while floating his bait out, it shook his bait off and stuck his hooks on bottom
. Pulled that off too and tried again. This time I put a quarter pound yellow jack on the surface just floating away from the bridge and JD put a bait out on the balloon. I got a SCREAMING hit not too long after. Certain it was a blacktip I set hook crazily as I normally do and since the shark was at the telephone poles I didn't let it pull out any drag... I had this nice lemon to the seawall in less than 5 minutes. Being as green as it was became difficult, the shark did a mad death roll forcing JD to let go of the leader."

This rod just doesn't bend...

Some innocent bystanders offered a rope so we gave it a go. JD and dread-lock man on rope gave the tail a little tug and the shark jumped clear out of the water and onto the seawall effortlessly!

We also ended up loosing a small shark that night at another bridge and JD caught a bonnethead as well. The next morning we went to another bridge and got 5 jacks for bait and I'm still convinced I lost a nice kingfish... but it can be argued as a massive cero mackerel... whatever it was, it was surely a mackerel and certainly over 10lbs and awfully shiny.
